English Toffee
Baking Time: 40-45 minutes
Temperature: 300°
Yields: 3 dozens
- 1 c. butter (half margarine)
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg, separated
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 c. flour
- 1/2 c. nuts, chopped
- Cream butter till fluffy.
- Add sugar, egg yolk, vanilla, and flour.
- Spread dough on a greased cookie sheet (12×14).
- Brush on the beaten egg white.
- Sprinkle on nuts.
- Bake at 300° for 40-45 minutes.
- Cool for 5 minutes, then cut into squares.
NOTE: You may wish to cut off the cookies on the outer edges of the cookie sheet earlier than the dough in the center.
