English Toffee

Baking Time: 40-45 minutes
Temperature: 300°
Yields: 3 dozens

  • 1 c. butter (half margarine)
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg, separated
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. nuts, chopped
  1. Cream butter till fluffy.
  2. Add sugar, egg yolk, vanilla, and flour.
  3. Spread dough on a greased cookie sheet (12×14).
  4. Brush on the beaten egg white.
  5. Sprinkle on nuts.
  6. Bake at 300° for 40-45 minutes.
  7. Cool for 5 minutes, then cut into squares.

NOTE: You may wish to cut off the cookies on the outer edges of the cookie sheet earlier than the dough in the center.
