Fried Shrimp Cakes or Balls

Mrs. Iwalani Kamoku – Hualani

  • 2 lb shrimps
  • ½ lb pork (ground)
  • 2 T cornstarch
  • 2 T sherry
  • 2 T shoyu
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 T oil
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 4 T water

Shell and clean shrimps. Grind shrimps. Mix ground pork and shrimp with starch, sherry, shoyu, salt, sugar and water. Make the mixture into plum-sized balls or cakes ½” thick and 1 or 2″ square. Heat the oil in a skillet and put balls or cakes to fry. Use medium fire, cook thoroughly. Serve hot.

Variation:

  • ¼ lb mushrooms
  • 2 T shoyu
  • 1 c water

Simmer balls in 1 c water. Add mushrooms and shoyu.
