Beef Broccoli

- 1 piece ginger root
- 2 lb. chuck or round steak, cut into pieces
- 2 lb. broccoli, cut into pieces
- 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1 cup cold water
- Oil
- 3 pieces garlic
- Salt, pepper, Ajinomoto* to taste
Clean ginger root and smash it up. Put root juice and meat in a bowl, mix, and let it stand for 5 minutes. Boil some water; add broccoli and boil for 1 minute. Drain and let cold water run over broccoli for 2 minutes. Make a sauce of 1 Tbsp. cornstarch, 1/2 tsp. sugar, and 1 cup cold water.
Heat oil in pot or wok. Clean garlic and put in the oil. Then put meat in pot to brown. Next put broccoli in and stir with a little salt and pepper and a little Ajinomoto to taste. Add cornstarch gravy last.
