Aiea’s Ono Lavosh

Pan Size: Cookie sheets
Temperature: 375°

Yields: Approximately 20 pieces

  • 2 3/4 c. flour + 1/4 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3-4 tbsp. sesame seeds (poppy seeds, optional)
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 block butter, melted

1. Combine dry ingredients except for 1/4 c. flour.
2. Add buttermilk and butter. Mix well.
3. Add 1/4 c. flour. Mix only until dough is coated.
4. Form dough into golf-ball size.
5. Roll out very thin 1/8 inches to 1/4 inches between floured wax paper.
6. Pat onto ungreased cold cookie sheet.
7. Bake about 10-15 minutes in 375°.
8. Check oven frequently.

NOTE: Baking the lavosh takes the longest time. The more cookie sheets, the better as only 2 – 3 pieces will fit on the sheet at one time.
