Hearty Beef Turnovers
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1 can (8-oz) pizza sauce
- 1/2 tsp instant minced onion
- 2 cups flour
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 cup cream-style cottage cheese, drained
Brown beef; drain. Stir in pizza sauce, onion and 1/4 tsp salt. Simmer, uncovered, 5 minutes; cool. Stir together flour, baking powder and 1/2 tsp salt. Cut in shortening till mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk; stir just till blended. On floured surface, roll dough to 16×12-inch rectangle. Cut into six 8×4-inch rectangles. Spread 2 rounded Tbsp cottage cheese over one half of each rectangle; top with 3 Tbsp meat mixture. Fold over other half of rectangle to form square; seal edges with fork. Place on baking sheet. Cut slits in top. Bake in 400 degree oven for 17-20 minutes.
