Deviled Short Ribs

  • 4 lbs. beef short ribs or stew meat
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • ½ tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • ¾ cup ketchup (pineapple vinegar tastes better)
  • ¼ cup shoyu
  • 2 tbsp. lemon juice
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 onion, chopped (optional)

Brown short ribs on all sides. Pour off drippings. Combine all ingredients. Pour over ribs, cover tightly and bake for about 2 hours at 350 degrees. Serves four.
