Crunchy Apple Pie

  • 1 No. 2 can sour red cherries
  • 4 cups sliced apples
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 unbaked pie shell
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup wheat germ
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup grated sharp Cheddar cheese

Drain cherries; combine with apples, sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of the cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of the nutmeg, salt and cloves. Toss well; pour into pie shell. Combine brown sugar, flour, wheat germ, remaining spices and butter. Mix with fork until crumbly; stir in cheese. Spread over fruit mixture. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 1 hour. Yield: one 10-inch pie.
