Almond Cookies

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • ½ tsp. soda
  • 1 egg

Mix dry ingredients together and cut in shortening. Add unbeaten egg and extract and knead until absorbed. Break off dough to size of an egg and shape into circles 1 inch in diameter then place ½ inch apart with an almond nut on top of each. Bake in oven at 300 degrees F. for 5 minutes, then 350 degrees F. for 20 minutes.
