Doughnut Drops

  • 2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 3 tbsp. salad oil
  • Oil about 1″ deep for frying
  • Confectioner’s sugar or cinnamon sugar
  1. Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. Add egg, milk, and 3 tbsp. oil.
  3. Stir until smooth.
  4. Heat oil to 365°.
  5. Drop dough by teaspoonfuls into hot oil.
  6. Turn doughnut puffs after a few seconds; then fry until browned on both sides, turning once more.
  7. Remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. Roll in confectioner’s sugar or cinnamon sugar.
  9. Serve warm. Yields: 3 dozen tiny doughnuts
