Oatmeal Bread
Mrs. Helen Billings – Honokaa
- 2 c regular oatmeal
- 1 qt. boiling water
- 1 c black molasses
- 1 T shortening
- 1 T salt
Mix together and cool.
Add 1 cake yeast dissolved in a cup of lukewarm water with 1 tsp sugar added. Add enough white flour so dough won’t stick to hands when kneading. Cover with towels and let rise until bulk doubles.
Place in greased bread pans. Cover with towels and let rise about 2 hours. Bake 45 minutes at 350° F.
