Sauerbraten
- 1 2-3 lbs. beef or lamb roast
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 tsp. pickling spice
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp. salt
- ½ tsp. pepper
- 2 cups milk (or skim milk)
- ¼ cup vinegar
In a large bowl add all ingredients, except meat. Mix well. Add meat and soak for 4-5 days, keep in the refrigerator. Turn meat every day, so that every side gets marinated well. On the 4th or 5th day take meat out. Place in baking dish, cover and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or till done. ½ hour before meat is done, add 1 cup water. For those who don’t like lamb or goat, try this. You’ll never know. Meat won’t smell. Lamb or goat prepared this way will taste like pork roast.
