Shortbread

Cream 1 cup butter; add 1/2 cup sugar gradually, cream together until light and fluffy. Work in 2-1/3 cups sifted flour and 1/4 tsp salt, using your fingertips. Press evenly into 9x9x2-inch pan and prick with a fork. Bake at 300 degrees for about 50 minutes or till golden brown. Cool slightly, then cut into oblong bars.

Yield: About 40 bars
