Peppermint Fudge

  • 2 sqs. unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 heaping Tbsp. butter (or shortening)
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/3 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Melt chocolate and shortening together. Sift together dry ingredients. Add dry ingredients and milk alternately into chocolate mixture. Dissolve baking soda in 3 tablespoons hot water and add to mixture. Add vanilla. Bake on greased cookie sheet for 10 minutes at 350 degrees F. Cool.

Topping:

  • 6 Tbsp. melted butter
  • 2 tsp. peppermint flavoring
  • 3 c. powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. milk

Beat ingredients to right consistency (icing-like) and spread.
