Ahi Tataki
Hari Kojima, TV2 Host, Hari’s Kitchen and Let’s Go Fishing
Serves 4-6
This dish is a hit at family gatherings…really different and delicious!
- 3 strips sashimi-ready Ahi fillets
- Salt and white pepper to taste
- Dried sweet basil
- 4 pieces shallots, finely minced
- 2 Maui onions, sliced
Sauce:
- 10 leaves fresh basil, thinly sliced
- 1 jar (8 oz.) Italian dressing (the one on sale!)
- 1 large ripe tomato, skinned and diced into 1/2-inch pieces
Season fish strips with salt, pepper and dry basil; cover with minced shallots. Singe all sides of fish in skillet on high heat…watch carefully as not more than 1/8-inch should appear brown on all sides and center should still be cold and red. Remove and slice into pieces, slightly thicker than sashimi slices. Arrange neatly over a bed of Maui onion slices. Combine ingredients for Sauce and pour over fish.
