Onion Wings

The name is not a misspelling or baby talk for onion rings. As far as I know, my father, who was a professional cook, must have originated the recipe.

The onions not only impart an unusual delicious flavor but also tenderize. Only those who have previous experience will be able to determine the piquant flavoring if you wipe off external onion pieces. Makes great pupus, hot or cold.

  • 5 pounds of chicken wings or wing flings, defrosted if frozen
  • 2 large onions (3″ in diameter), peeled and grated
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • White pepper to taste
  • Flour
  • Vegetable oil

In bowl, mix grated onions with chicken, salt, and pepper. Marinate overnight in the refrigerator.

Place flour in paper bag, add chicken, shake until pieces are nicely coated with flour. Deep fry in vegetable oil until nicely browned. Serves 4-5.
