Surprise Easter Buns

Edith Kahaawi – Hualani

  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1 c lukewarm water
  • 1 c scalded milk, cooled
  • 6 c sifted flour
  • 3/4 c sugar
  • 4 T shortening
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 eggs, well beaten

Soften yeast with 1 T of sugar and a little of the lukewarm water. Add rest of dry ingredients, shortening and mix well. Add eggs, milk and water and beat mixture until smooth.

Cover and let rise in warm place for 1 1/2 hours. When dough has risen well, knead lightly and shape into buns. Insert in each bun raw egg with shell on, and let rise until dough is double in bulk.

Bake in moderate oven for 20-25 minutes.
