Peppakor

Bake 5 to 8 minutes in 350 degrees oven

Combine in 3 quart saucepan:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup butter, cut in small pieces
  • ½ cup molasses
  • 1/3 cup water; heat to lukewarm (about 110F.) stirring constantly. Remove from heat and continue stirring until butter melts. Cool.

Sift together:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • ½ tsp. cloves

Add gradually, the dry ingredients to the cooled sugar mixture, blending well. Beat thoroughly. Cover; chill at least overnight or allow to age up to one week.

Place chilled dough about ¼ at a time, on well floured surface. Knead about 10 strokes. Coat dough with flour, then roll out with floured rolling pin into 1/16” thickness.

Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutter or pastry wheel. Place on lightly greased baking sheet.
