Meat Sticks

  • ½ pound sirloin steak
  • Bamboo barbecue sticks (kushisashi)

Sauce:

  • ⅓ cup coarse brown sugar
  • 1 cup shoyu
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • 1 small piece ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon mirin
  • ⅛ teaspoon gourmet powder

Cut meat into 1½″ squares about ¼″ thick and skewer 3 pieces on each bamboo stick, keeping meat flat in a row so that bamboo will not show.

Soak skewered meat sticks in sauce in a deep container and let stand for about 10 minutes. Broil over charcoal.
