Matsutake Gohan (Mushroom Rice)

Servings 4 – 6

  • 2 cups rice
  • 1/4 cup sake
  • 1 can mushrooms (med.)
  • 1/4 cup liquid from mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon shoyu
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon gourmet powder
  • 1 1/2 cups water

Wash rice and drain. Combine sake, liquid from mushrooms, shoyu, salt, gourmet powder and water in a heavy saucepan, add rice and bring to a boil. Then add sliced mushrooms; mix and cover. When the mixture starts to steam, turn heat very low and steam for 15 minutes.
