Jook or Chuk (Rice Gruel)
- 4 – 5 cups cooked rice
- 2 – 3 cups water
- Piece of ginger
Bring the above mixture to a boil and cook slowly till thick and smooth. Add salt and ajinomoto to flavor.
Gruel may be started from uncooked rice: 1 cup rice and 7 cups water. Wash rice and add water. Bring to a boil and simmer 25 minutes. Add seasoning. If a thicker gruel is desired simmer 10 minutes longer.
Marinate: 1 cup chopped or shredded chicken, beef, fish or pork, shoyu, sugar, oil and crushed ginger.
Just before serving add meat and stir to mix well, best to add little rice to the meat, stir, then add that mixture to all of the rice soup.
Serve boiling hot with shredded lettuce, green onion (cut fine), chopped pickled vegetables and salted cabbage.
This may be served plain as breakfast cereal or with shredded lettuce, green onion, chopped pickled vegetables and salted cabbage for snack.
