Ruby Punch Bowl

Makes 1 gallon

  • 1-1/2 cups water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 sticks cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. whole clove
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 pint chilled cranberry juice cocktail
  • 2 (4/5th) bottles California Burgundy or red dinner wine
  • 1 qt. chilled apple cider
  • Cubes of ice
  • Thin slices of lemon or lime

Bring water, sugar, spices and salt to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for 10 minutes; strain out and discard spices; cool syrup. Combine spiced syrup with wine, cranberry cocktail and cider. Turn into punch bowl; add ice cubes and lemon slices.
