Oatmeal Drop Cookies

  • 1 cup Crisco, butter or margarine
  • 2 cups brown sugar, well packed
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 tsp baking soda dissolved in 1/4 cup hot water
  • 1 tsp vanilla flavoring
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts, optional
  • 1/2 cup raisins, optional

Cream shortening and brown sugar well. Add the well beaten eggs, dissolved baking soda and vanilla and mix well. Stir in flour, oatmeal, nuts and/or raisins. Drop by teaspoonfuls on greased cookie sheet. Bake in 400 degree oven for about 15 minutes.

Yield: About 5 dozen cookies
