Modern Marble Cake and Creamy Sugar Frosting

  • 2 pkg. pound cake mix (17 oz. size)
  • 1½ tsp. vanilla
  • 3 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa
  • ¾ tsp. cinnamon
  • ½ tsp. nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp. ground cloves

Prepare pound cake mix according to package directions. Stir in the vanilla. Remove 2 cups batter to a small bowl. Stir in the cocoa, cinnamon, ¼ tsp. nutmeg and cloves. Mix well and set aside.

Add ¼ tsp. nutmeg to the white batter. Pour white batter in thirds into a heavily greased and lightly floured 10 by 4 inch tube pan. Between each addition of batter, dribble in the chocolate mixture. Cut through batter with knife to marble cake.

Bake in 325 degrees oven 1½ hours or until cake is done. Cool out of pan onto wire rack and cool thoroughly. Ice with Creamy Sugar Frosting.

Creamy Sugar Frosting:

Cream 2 tbsp. softened butter or margarine in small mixing bowl. Add 1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar and 1 tsp. vanilla extract. Gradually add 3 tbsp. light cream; mix well. Dribble frosting over top of cake.
