Malasadas

  • 2 pkgs. yeast
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1/3 c. warm water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 10 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. butter, melted
  • 12 c. flour

Combine yeast, sugar and warm water; set aside. Combine salt, sugar, nutmeg, eggs, vanilla, warm milk, melted butter and 6 c. flour. Beat with electric beater until elastic. Add 6 c. flour again and knead with hands. Continue until elastic. Set aside until double in bulk. Drop spoonfuls at a time in hot oil. Heat until golden brown. Sprinkle with sugar.
