Crab Meat Spread Pupu

From Linda Keller, President, Hawaii Legal Auxiliary

A friend gave me this popular pupu recipe years ago. I use the refrigerated packaged crab-like seafood instead of the crab meat and have found that Ritz crackers taste and work the best.

  • 12 ounces softened cream cheese
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Dash garlic salt
  • 1/2 cup bottled cocktail sauce or chili sauce
  • 6 ounce fresh or imitation crab meat, flaked
  • Chopped fresh parsley, optional
  • Ritz crackers

Combine cream cheese, onion, Worcestershire sauce, mayonnaise, lemon juice, and garlic salt in a mixing bowl or a food processor. Beat until smooth.

Spread mixture evenly on a round 12-inch dish. You can prepare this pupu ahead of time up to this point, in which case refrigerate the dish.

At serving time, spread cocktail or chili sauce evenly over cheese mixture, leaving a 3/4-inch margin. Sprinkle flaked crab meat over the sauce. Garnish with parsley if desired. Serve with crackers. Serves 10.
