“Bear Claws” or Swedish Tea Ring

Combine and dissolve.

  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 2 pkg. dry yeast

Combine in a bowl.

  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/4 c. melted margarine
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 5 c. flour

Add yeast mixture. Cover, let rise, punch down, knead. After kneading dough, roll it to 1/2 inch thickness. Butter dough, sprinkle with filling, and roll lengthwise. Shape roll into a ring on cookie sheet. Cut or slice at 1 inch intervals about 2/3 of the way through. Pull sections apart and twist slightly. Let rise. Bake in 350 degree F. until golden. Decorate with nuts and icing.

Filling: Combine:

  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 3/4 c. nuts
  • 3/4 c. raisins/fruit mix
