Sugar Cookies

  • 1 C. butter
  • 1 C. powdered sugar
  • 1 C. shortening
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 1/2 C. flour, sifted
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder or cream of tartar
  • 1 C. white sugar

Preheat the oven to 350°. Cream butter, shortening and powdered sugar together. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Sift all dry ingredients into mixture and mix to form a dough. Make the dough into small balls. Grease a cookie sheet lightly and place balls onto it. Dip bottom of a glass cup into white sugar then press it down on each cookie ball to flatten it. Bake for 7 to 8 minutes.
