Oatmeal Cookies
- ¾ cup shortening
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup water
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Place above ingredients in mixing bowl, beat thoroughly.
- 1 cup sifted enriched flour
- ½ tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
Sift together and add to creamed mixture and mix well. Blend in 3 cups oats, uncooked. Drop by teaspoon onto greased cookie sheets. Bake in moderate oven 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES: Add 1 six-ounce package semi-sweet chocolate pieces and ½ cup chopped nutmeats with the oats.
RAISIN-SPICE COOKIES: Sift 1 tsp. cinnamon and ¼ tsp. nutmeg with the flour. Add 1 cup raisin with the oats.
