German Cream Cheese Brownies

  • 1 pkg. (4 oz.) German chocolate
  • 3 tbsp. butter

Melt over low heat, stirring constantly. Cool and set aside.

Cream:

  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 1 pkg. (3 oz.) cream cheese

Gradually add:

  • ¼ cup sugar, creaming until light and fluffy.

Stir in:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp. flour
  • ½ tsp. vanilla

Set aside.

Beat 2 eggs until fluffy and light in color. Gradually add ¾ cup sugar, beating until thickened. Fold in ½ tsp. baking powder, ¼ tsp. salt, and ½ cup flour. Blend in the cooled chocolate mixture. Stir in ½ cup nuts, ¼ tsp. almond extract (if desired), and ½ tsp. vanilla. Measure 1 cup of this chocolate batter and set aside.

Spread remaining chocolate batter in a greased 9×9 inch pan. Pour cheese mixture over the top. Drop measured chocolate batter from tbsp. onto cheese mixture, swirl the mixture together with spatula just to marble. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 35-40 minutes. Cool and store in refrigerator.
