Crispy Won Ton

  • 2 pkgs. won ton pi ( about 10 oz. per package)

Filling:

  • Approximately 1/2 pound of ground pork
  • 6 medium-sized shrimp (peeled, deveined, and chopped)
  • 1/3 to 1/2 can water chestnuts (or as desired), chopped
  • 4-5 green onion leaves, chopped
  • 1 egg
  • Approximately 2 Tbsp. oyster sauce (or to your taste).
  • 3 dashes black pepper or to your taste

Combine the filling ingredients and mix thoroughly.

Place approximately 1-teaspoon. of filling onto center of the won ton pi. Do not overfill or it will ooze out the sides of the won ton pi.

Dampen outer edge of the pi with water. Fold to form a triangle and press edges to seal in the filling.

Bring the two narrower ends together (opposite the triangle point), place a dab of water and press tightly. Bring the center point (triangle point) up so that it holds the filling.

Fry in hot oil until golden brown. Drain on paper towel.

Can also be Gau Ghee. Only the folding is different and more filling can be added. Place filling in center of pi. Dampen all sides of pi with water and fold to form a rectangle. Press all edges to seal in filling.

Variation: Won ton and Gau Gee can be steamed or boiled, instead of deep fried. Add to saimin soup or won ton mein soup.
