Oatmeal Nut Cookies

  • 1 c shortening
  • 1 c sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp allspice
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 c rolled oats
  • 1 c nuts, chopped
  • 1 c raisins, chopped
  • 3 c flour
  • 1 tsp soda
  • ¼ c milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Blend shortening, spices, and salt. Add sugar gradually and cream until light and fluffy. Add well-beaten eggs and beat until smooth. Add nuts, oats, and raisins. Add flour sifted with soda, alternately with milk, beating well after each addition. Add flavoring.

Drop from teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet, 2 inches apart. Flatten slightly with spatula. Bake in moderate oven, 375° F., 12-15 minutes.

Makes 6 dozens.
