Apple Squares
Crust:
- 1 cup butter or margarine
- ¾ cup sugar
- 3 egg yolks
- Pinch of salt
- 3 cups flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
Filling:
- 1¾ cup apple slices, drained
- ½ tsp. cinnamon
- ½ tsp. cloves
- 1 cup sugar
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, dry ingredients. Divide the dough in two batches. Pat one batch of dough in a greased square pan. Mix the filling and pour it over the dough. Put the other batch of dough over the filling and bake in 350 degrees F. until golden brown. While still hot, cut squares and sprinkle powdered sugar over the top.
