Sourdough Sweet Bread
- 5 c. flour
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. scalded milk
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 stick margarine
- 2 c. starter
- 3 eggs
Mix in large bowl 1 c. flour, 1 c. sugar and 1 tsp. salt. Scald milk with margarine; cool. Gradually add flour, sugar, salt; beat 2 minutes.
Add 2 c. starter and approximately 1/4 c. flour to form thick batter. Beat 2 minutes vigorously. Knead until smooth and shiny and does not stick to hands.
Let rise in greased bowl until double. Punch down, knead, form into rolls or loaves. Let rise until double again.
Beat 1 egg white with 1 tbsp. water to blend well. Brush top of loaves.
Bake 350 degrees 35-40 minutes depending on loaf size.
