2 white radishes

2 cups water

1 tbsp. salt

4 oranges

2 tbsp. sugar, if desired

Pare radishes and cut into very thin crosswise slices. Add water and salt; let it stand for 20 minutes. Stir occasionally, pressing lightly. Drain and rinse well.

Peel oranges; cut into very thin crosswise slices. Combine orange and radish slices; toss lightly, add sugar if oranges are too tart.
