Maruvian (Moravian) Christmas Cookies
1/2 cup butt.er or shortening
1 cup heated molasses
1/3 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
3/4 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. cloves
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. allspice
dash of salt
3/4 tsp. soda
3-3/ 4 cups sifted flour
Combine shortening and molasses. Add sugar, spices, salt and soda. Add flour, let stand in cold place 1 to 2 hours. Place small amount of dough on slightly floured board and roll thin. Cut and place on greased sheet and bake in moderate oven, 375 F. for about six minutes. Keep in closed cookie can.
