Fruit-Nut Refrigerator Cookies (1st Prize Maui County Fair)
1 cup butter
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
4 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. soda
1/2 cup nut meats
1/2 cup pitted dates
1/2 cup maraschino cherries
Cream butter and sugar together; add eggs. Sift flour, salt, cinnamon and soda together. Add 1/2 cup of flour mixture to the fruits and nuts. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, mix well, and add the remaining floured ingredients. Form into rolls 1 inch in diameter. Wrap in waxed paper. Store in your refrigerator overnight or longer. Slice 1/4 inch thick. Place on a greased cookie sheet, set the oven control at 400 F. and bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
