Manapua

 

1 lb. lean char siu, diced
1-1/2 Tbsp. Hoisin sauce
2 Tbsp. chopped green onions (1 stalk)
Pepper
1 pkg. hot roll mix
1 1/2 tsp. shoyu

Combine char siu, green onions, Hoisin sauce and pepper, shoyu. Prepare hot roll mix according to directions on package. Let rise until double in size. Knead lightly on a floured board until smooth and elastic. Cut dough into 20 small pieces. Flour hands and board and flatten pieces of dough. Place tablespoonful of meat mixture in the center. Form into buns by pulling dough up around filling. Pinch to seal seams. Place on squares of waxed paper, smooth side up and arrange on steaming rack. Cover and let rise until double in size. Steam for 15 minutes. Manapua may also be baked in 350 degree F. for baked manapua. For variation in seasoning, 1/4 tsp. prepared mustard and a few drops Tabasco may be added.
