Marble Brownies

 

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
3/4 cups sifted enriched flour
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream shortening, sugar and eggs; sift dry ingredients Into creamed mixture. Place hall of batter Into another bowl. Melt one 1-ounce square chocolate and add to the other bowl. Drop by tsp. in 8-inch pan checkerboard fashion and spread zig zag over lightly with scraper. Bake in 325 F oven for 35 minutes. Cool and top with chocolate nut frosting.

Chocolate Nut Frosting:
Over hot water melt one-half 1-ounce square chocolate and one tablespoon butter with two tablespoons milk. Add 3/4 cup sifted confectioners sugar. Beat to spreading consistency. Spread on brownies; top with chopped walnut. Cut in bars.
