Snails

 

1-1/2 cake yeast
2 tsp. salt
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1/2 cup raisins, washed
1/2 cup hot water
4 heaping tbsp. shortening
1/2 cup milk
Flour, enough to make the dough hard but not tough, about 4 cups

First add raisins, salt, sugar and shortening. Add bot water to melt shortening; add milk to make lukewarm; then add the yeast crumbled. When yeast is bubbling, beat eggs well and add to the liquid then gradually add flour and knead. Punch down once when it rises double in bulk. Second time shape it be rolling dough flat. Spread the butter and sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon and roll like jelly roll. Let it rise again and bake in moderate oven about 375 F.
