Manapua

 

1 lb. lean char siu, diced
1/3 c. chopped green onions
1 tbsp. salad oil
1 pkg. hot roll mix or refrigerated biscuits
1 tbsp. nam yui (opt.)
1 1/2 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. 5 Spice

Combine char siu, green onions, salad oil, nam yui, sugar and 5 Spice.

Prepare roll mix according to directions on package; let rise until doubled. Knead lightly on a floured board until smooth and elastic.

Cut dough into 20 pieces. Oil hands and board; flatten pieces of dough. Place tablespoonful of meat mixture in center. Form into buns by pulling dough up around filling; pinch to seal seams. Place on squares of waxed paper, smooth side up and arrange on steaming rack . Cover and let rise until doubled . Steam for 15 minutes. Manapua can also be baked in the oven.
